Students can choose to either take the AR test on the book (pass at 60%) OR choose to do book talks.  CLICK HERE to learn about book talks. Once complete, let your ELA teacher know and show her the tests or book talks.
Students are encouraged to read from a list of books called the Louisiana Young Readers’ Choice nominees.  These are books recommended by the Louisiana State Library.  Reading these books is OPTIONAL and parents should help their children pick out the titles that are the best fit for their own kids. 
  • Read THREE of the titles:
    • Election Day:  Students who read on at least THREE of the titles by January 26th will be allowed to vote for their favorite book on a real voting machine on January 28th.  
  • Read FIVE of the titles:
    • Battle of the Books: Students who read at least FIVE of the titles by early April (Date: TBD) will be allowed to join a team for the Battle of the Books (BOB).  Students will compete on teams against each other school-wide.  The winning team from LOM will compete against other area schools in a district tournament.
    • Once you complete 5 titles, have your ELA teacher email Mrs. Jones.  You will receive a special award at Awards Day, we will post on social media and our website, and we will announce your name on our morning/afternoon announcements.

40 Book Challenge

​We are encouraging students to participate in the
​40 Book Challenge this year and read from a variety of genres.  They can read ANY books they would like to read as long as they read the required number in each genre. Once a student finishes the challenge, he/she must show the ELA teacher.  The ELA teacher will email Mrs. Jones and she will call you to the library to  take your picture for the website/social media, and announce your name over the intercom. This year's deadline is TBD.

 40 Book Challenge

Once a student finishes the challenge, he/she must show the ELA teacher.  The ELA teacher will email Mrs. Jones and she will call you to the library to receive a 40 BC shirt, take your picture for the website/social media, and announce your name over the intercom. This year's deadline is May 8, 2020.

Battle of the Books
2019-2020

Students are encouraged to read from a list of books called the Louisiana Young Readers’ Choice nominees.  These are books recommended by the Louisiana State Library.  Reading these books is OPTIONAL and parents should help their children pick out the titles that are the best fit for their own kids.  Common Sense Media and Goodreads are two excellent websites to find reviews of these books.  The titles are geared for middle grade students in grades 4-8.  Students who read and test on these books should be sure to add these to their 40 Book Challenge log. 
  • Read THREE of the titles:
    • Election Day:  Students who read/test on at least THREE of the titles by January 24th will be allowed to vote for their favorite book on a real voting machine in the spring.  Election Day is January 29, 2020.
  • Read FIVE of the titles:
    • Battle of the Books: Students who read at least FIVE of the titles by April 9th will be allowed to join a team for the Battle of the Books (BOB).  Students will compete on teams against each other school-wide.  The winning team from LOM will compete against other area schools in a district tournament LOM Battle of Books is April 29, 2020, and the District BoB will be on May 7, 2020 at the LPPS SUMA Center in Satsuma, LA.
    • Breakfast Club: Students who read at least FIVE of these titles by the last AR deadline will be given a breakfast party on May 14, 2020.
    • Once you complete testing on 5 titles, have your ELA teacher email Mrs. Jones.

 Millionaires Club

All students who earn 1,000,000 words by the last AR deadline get invited to a Millionaire Celebration.  The students will walk the red carpet to a special event just for our millionaires.  You can keep track of words in the AR program.  Parents can check points/words here.  Once you reach 1 million words, have your ELA teacher check and email Mrs. Jones. The deadline for testing is May 8th.
